About the Team
The Beginning | After the Dust SettledThe Beginning
Split Happens was formed in the summer of 2011. The team was founded by Tyler Nelson and Kevin Schippers. The name was decided on moments before the league started and when given the chance to change names nobody wanted to.
The original members were:
- Tyler Nelson (Captain)
- Sara Nelson
- Kevin Schippers
- Tim Schippers
- Chris Schippers (Substitute)
The team bowled in their first league together at Miracle Bowl in Orem, Utah. At the end of the league they landed in 1st place and they took home their first trophey! That trophey, to this day, remains on the back of Kevin's toilet.
Kevin had this to say about their first win:
"Nobody thought we would ever win. It was our first league together as a team and two of our members were using house balls. They didn't bowl much before. I think what ultimately did it for us was Tim's super high handicap!"Back to Top
After the Dust Settled
The team has played in the Summer Mixed League at Miracle Bowl every year since 2011. The team roster changed slightly in 2012.
2012 Team Roster
- Tyler Nelson (Captain)
- Sara Nelson
- Kevin Schippers
- Tim Schippers (alternate)
- Gary Nelson (alternate)
Tim and Gary would switch every week in order to accomadate each other's schedule. Tim ended up getting a new job which required him to travel and he would later leave the team. The members of Split Happens were unable to defend their title in 2012 and didn't even finish in the top 3 despite Kevin Schippers bowling better than he ever had beore.
2013 Team Roster
- Tyler Nelson (Captain)
- Sara Nelson
- Kevin Schippers
- Gary Nelson (alternate)
- Rick Kader (alternate)
In 2013, the team was back in the running for the first spot. It all came down to the last week. Split Happens needed to win 3 out of 4 points in order to bowl for the trophy. They fell short and won only 2 of the 4 points. Each player continues to make improvements in their game and the team hopes to win the trophy in 2014. After all, two tropheys on the back of the toilet are better than one.
